The Honoring the Sacrifice Foundation held its sixth annual American Heroes Dinner last weekend.
Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer told his story in his own words and reminded the sold out crowd of patriotic Americans that “…sometimes you find yourself in the middle of nowhere, and sometimes in the middle of nowhere you find yourself.”
Senior Master Sergeant Israel Del Toro, Jr.
(DT) mesmerized the audience through his personal story of resilience and never quit attitude. DT reinforced the need for organizations like Chattanooga-based Honoring the Sacrifice, which views the needs of each veteran as unique. Israel Del Toro, Jr. was burned over 80% of his body when his Humvee rolled over an IED in Afghanistan in 2005.
According to foundation spokesperson, the room was full of veterans who have made significant personal sacrifices for the cause of liberty and freedom.
The Honoring the Sacrifice Foundation was formed in the fall of 2013 by wounded Army Sgt. Andrew Smith and his wife Tori. Sgt. Smith lost both legs and suffered severe internal injuries on his first dismounted patrol near Kandahar, Afghanistan in March, 2012.
