A tractor-trailer rig traveling southbound on Interstate 75 crossed into the median slamming into the middle bridge support of the Harrison Pike overpass at mile marker 23 in Bradley County, and burst into flames around 8:45 p.m. on Monday.
The driver was able to escape with no injuries.
Harrison Pike was closed until TDOT arrived to inspect the structural integrity of the bridge.
Their inspection cleared the bridge to be reopened.
Southbound lanes on 75 were slowed, and northbound lanes were closed for a short time for cleanup. Cleanup will last through the night.
Bradley County Fire & Rescue, Bradley County EMS, Bradley County EMA, TDOT, THP, and the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office conducted a unified command on the scene.
The cause of the single vehicle crash is still under investigation, and will be led by the THP.
