City Council Passes 6-Month Moratorium On Electric Scooters In Chattanooga On 1st Reading

  • Tuesday, July 2, 2019

The City Council on Tuesday night approved on first reading a six-month moratorium on electric scooters in Chattanooga.

The City Council earlier turned thumbs down on the scooters that some members said have caused multiple problems - and some deaths - in other cities. They are allowed in the state's other three large cities.

However, a new state law that took effect July 1 is favorable to electric scooter operators.

Councilman Ken Smith said the moratorium would give time for the council to determine how best to regulate the scooters, if they cannot be banned altogether.
