BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Lookouts starter Tony Santillan retired the first seven hitters he faced but would lose the game on a fielding error late in the 2-1 loss on Thursday night to the Barons at Regions Field.
A strong outing from Blake Battenfield helped get the Birmingham Barons to victory.
Pitching very strong outings Thursday night were both starting pitchers. Battenfield (W, 4-2) earning the win for Birmingham, went a season-high seven innings of one-run ball. On the other side, Lookouts starter Santillan (L, 2-8) tied his season-high with eight strikeouts and allowed just one earned run.
The Barons broke a scoreless game plating a run in the bottom of the third.
In the bottom of the sixth with the game tied 1-1, Birmingham took the lead for good on an error by Jose Siri. After a walk, Damek Tomscha lined a single to center fielder Siri who made a running fielding attempt and the ball slipped under his glove and trickled about 15 feet behind him.
This allowed the base runner to come all the way around and score, while Tomscha pulled into third off the error and the Barons went ahead 2-1, which was the final score.
While Siri had two hits it would be the miscue that would lose the game.
Tyler Stephenson had a two hit night as well and would score the only run for the Lookouts. Taylor Trammell chipped in two early hits. Chattanooga had ten hits in all but only the one run to show for it.
