Emma Hughley
Mrs. Emma Ruth Griffin Hughley, 81, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2019.
She was a faithful member of the Greater Saint John Missionary Baptist Church, and served in several ministries. She was a 1955 graduate of Howard High School and Chattanooga State College, where she received her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She retired from Sun Trust Bank after 35 years of service.
Mrs. Hughley was preceded in death by parents, Melvin and Lillie Griffin; sisters, Buena Overstreet and Thelma Houston; brother Melvin Griffin, Jr.; and granddaughter, Robin Renee Evans.
She leaves to cherish her memories, sister, Mrs. Ethel L. Willingham; sons, Elder Delford L. (Grace) Hughley, Sr., Minister Steven M. (Rhonda) Hughley, Sr.; God-son, Eddie (Sheila) Caheely; daughters, Charita Hughley, Minister Janet (Michael) Wordlaw and Rev. Dr. Angela R. Evans; grandchildren whom she raised, Ruthie, Stephon and Kevin Hughley; also 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Griffin Heath; caregiver, Annie Gaines; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Hughley will lie in state after noon on Monday, July 29, and the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. A funeral service will be held at noon on Tuesday, July 30, at the Greater Saint John Missionary Baptist Church, 4401 Ohls Ave., with Pastor Timothy Sykes as officiant and Elder Delford L. Hughley, Sr. as eulogist.
Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
