Lionheart Youth
Siskin Children's Institute has partnered with Scenic City Mud Run as the sponsor of this year’s adaptive youth course. Coaches will be available to assist youth with special needs as they tackle the 1-mile youth course. Adaptive athletes of all ages have already registered to compete.
The race will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7, at Greenway Farms in Hixson. The event will offer competitive heats with cash prizes for top three female and male finishers with 100 percent obstacle completion. Thanks to race director Julie Wolfe and Jason Phy of OCRAddix, this year’s competitive and non-competitive teams, and individuals will enjoy an enhanced 5K course and after-party along with heats for racers who want a coach to assist throughout the course.
This year’s event is supporting Lionhearts Fitness and OCR youth nonprofit program. Lionhearts is a Chattanooga and North Georgia area program serving the fitness needs of children of all fitness levels, financial status, capacities and abilities with no one left out.
"We are so thrilled to partner with Lionheart Fitness and Youth and the Scenic City Mud Run to design and develop an adaptive course for kids of all ages to participate in this outdoor community event, “ says Lisa Spurlock, coordinator of the Family Voices of Tennessee, Southeast Partnership at Siskin Children’s Institute. “Parents of children with special needs were excited to participate in the design process to ensure the course was as accessible as possible for all kids and families. We look forward to seeing many children and families enjoy this fun outdoor event.”
Several adult adaptive athletes will be conquering the adult course this year. Blind Pete is attending and will also help marshal the kid’s course. He has completed over 100 obstacle races himself.
