Police Blotter: Bass Road Neighbors In Spat Over Dogs; Police Check Out Man Living In His Car With "Hatchet" And Sheri

A woman on Olive Street said she and her daughter got into a verbal altercation while she was helping her stepson's girlfriend load a mattress in her vehicle. She said when she was getting ready to leave, her daughter tried to hit her vehicle on the rear. The complainant stated that she and her daughter "don't get along and every time that she comes around her they have problems." After speaking with both parties, police left the scene without major incident.

Police were summoned to St. Peter's Missionary Church on Old Cleveland Pike. An officer spoke with Barry Leemore, who said he and the pastor, Keith Jones, were in a dispute over the pastorship. The officer said, "We spoke with both parties and several church members. Due to the church having their own by laws, police encouraged the members to come together peacefully in the manner of their bylaws and act accordingly. Both sides agreed to come together peacefully and police left without further incident."

A caller reported that her boyfriend, James Crafton, had vanished while picking up trash on the side of the road. Police found James at the Waffle House and he stated that he was hungry and had accidentally missed the bus. The girlfriend was called and made aware of James' location.

At Lee's Liquors on Lee Highway, a man said he went inside to make a purchase and when he returned his truck and the woman he was with had left. When asked what the relationship was between the two he stated "I've slept with her a few times." Complainant stated he does not want her to get in trouble, he just wants his truck returned. The vehicle is a Ford F-150 and is registered in Alabama. The complainant "could/would not provide any other information on the female subject."

Police were called to referee a ruckus on Bass Road. At officer "spoke with Mr. Jason Ashley. Mr. Ashley stated that while he was letting his dog outside in his front yard, the neighbors across the street let their three dogs out. Mr. Ashley stated that one of the dogs attempted to attack his dog, and he threw a drink in the dogs face, and his friend picked up his dog. Mr. Ashley stated that after the event, another female in a navy blue shirt came down from the house across the street and started cussing at him. I then spoke with the neighbor, Ms. Amari Demoss. Ms. Demoss stated that her three dogs got off their leashes, and two of her dogs ran up to the people at Mr. Ashley's house. Ms. Demoss stated that the third dog ran up to Mr. Ashley's dog to sniff it, and Mr. Ashley threw an alcoholic drink in her dogs face. Ms. Demoss stated that Mr. Ashley then started yelling and cussing at her, and told her that he will kill her dog if he needed to. Ms. Demoss stated that she then went and told her cousin, Ms. Kiera Demoss. Ms. Kiera Demoss stated that she then went down to speak with Mr. Ashley, and he then began cussing and yelling at her. Ms. Kiera Demoss stated that when she went back up her driveway, Mr. Ashley continued to yell at her, saying "bring it."

Management at Dillards at 2100 Hamilton Place Blvd. said two black females entered the store at the women's department entrance and stole a gray Dooney and Bourke purse. One of the females grabbed several different purses and both proceeded to run out of the store. A Dillards employee saw this and attempted to secure the purses from the female. He was able to retrieve all but one purse. The females ran out of the store and into the parking lot. An officer observed security footage from the theft. He said the females "appeared to be heavy set and have been known to steal from the store on several occasions." At this time there is no suspect information and their identities could not be obtained. Dillards valued the purse at $350.

A resident of English Avenue said that when she arrived home she found a man sitting on her back porch. When she confronted the man and told him to leave, a woman came out of the crawl space under the house and asked what was going on. The guy was described as a white male with a black backpack and cargo shorts, while the woman was a white female with a yellow tank top and black shorts. Both left the area on bikes. The resident was concerned that they have been staying in the crawl space under her house. Police checked the space, but it did not appear that anything was down there to indicate someone had been living there.

Police found Russell White asleep in the back of his vehicle at an address on East Brainerd Road. Police also noticed that there were suitcases open along with purses and their contents around the vehicle open as if they were ransacked. Police woke up White and he explained to police he was living out of his car with a person who is known to him as "Hatchet" and another woman named Sheri. He explained they were organizing their belongings when he fell asleep in the back of his vehicle and he is unsure of their whereabouts. Police requested he collect the items from the parking lot to prevent negative perceptions and public alarm and he agreed to do so.
