Christian J. Collier
Chattanooga poet and teaching artist Christian J. Collier will be celebrating the release of his docuseries The Plug Poetry Project on Sept. 20, at 6 p.m. on the fifth floor of The Edney Innovation Center.
The documentary marks the directorial debut from Mr. Collier, and the first episode features poets Marcus Ellsworth and Olivia Bradley.
Over the course of six episodes, the series offers a look at the contemporary poetry scene in Chattanooga by featuring interviews and performances from some of the city’s most acclaimed, established, and up-and-coming poets. By the end of each episode, viewers will come away with a better understanding of the writers, their work, and the city at large, said officials.
Mr. Collier is an accomplished writer and musician who has performed with several members of HBO’s Def Poetry, Minton Sparks, and legendary poet Ishmael Reed to name a few. He is a 2015 recipient of The Loft Literary Center’s Spoken Word Immersion Fellowship. His work has also been featured on The Guardian, and he has also given two TEDx Talks and appeared on an episode of TNT’s State Farm Neighborhood Sessions with multi-platinum recording artist Usher Raymond.
Following the premiere, there will be a q & a where attendees can learn more about the featured poets, the series, and the making of the project. Tickets are free and currently available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-plug-poetry-project-premiere-tickets-69089278893
