Daniel Charles Poteralski passed away peacefully on July 30, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

Dan was born in Schenectady, New York and received his BS in Electrical Engineering and his Masters in Nuclear Engineering from Union College in Schenectady, New York.  He worked at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory  and Florida Power and Light before retiring from Carolina Power and Light as the Manager of Nuclear Fuels and Technology.   A move to Chattanooga led to residing at the Continental where a warm welcome and friendly faces abound.

Dan was the ideal husband and an amazing father.   He supported his boys from Boy Scouts and Little League to driving lessons and college.  He and Pat traveled extensively, favorites being Antarctica, China and Machu Picchu.  He enjoyed boating, running and fishing but his favorite activity was time spent with his granddaughters.  And the fact they shared fishing expeditions was a double delight.  Although a quiet man, his family brought him joy and pride he was not hesitant to share.

Dan was heavily involved in the Rotary Club beginning in Bracey, Va. and continuing with the Rotary Breakfast Club in Chattanooga.  He was honored to be this year’s Volunteer of the Year and found his work with the Interact Club of Red Bank High School very rewarding.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Poteralski and Josephine Jarzebowski and his sister, Virginia Morse.

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 48 years, Patricia Wear Poteralski;  sons, Martin (Erin) Poteralski and Jeffrey (Tessa) Poteralski; granddaughters, Reese Anna, Avery Grace, Emerson Faith and Gillian Josephine; wonderful nieces and nephews; and caring in-laws.

The family will receive friends at Chattanooga Funeral Home in Hixson on Friday, Aug. 9, from 5-8 p.m..  A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, at 11 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church.

Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
