Eileen Broadwater

Eileen Link Broadwater, 78, a Hixson resident for decades, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 as the result of complications from a long illness.

Eileen was born in Miami, Florida, on April 16, 1941, to Harry and Aileen Link, who preceded her in death, and grew up in Coral Gables.

She graduated from Coral Gables High School in 1959, and four years later earned a degree in French (she was also bilingual in Spanish) from Tulane University where she was a member of Intervarsity Fellowship and Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Following college she worked for Delta Airlines and was a member of Junior League of Miami.

Eileen and her fiancé, Herbert L. Broadwater, a graduate of the University of Miami, were married in Key Biscayne, Florida on September 5, 1964. Their marriage lasted more than 55 years.

Following his graduation in 1970 from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, PA, they moved to Hixson where he became pastor of Hixson Presbyterian Church.

A strong and faithful Christian, Eileen taught Bible studies at Hixson Presbyterian for many years, and tutored high school students in Spanish.

In addition to her husband, Eileen is survived by their son Mark and his wife Vanja of Charleston, SC; a daughter, Melanie Broadwater of Hixson, daughter Bethany Broadwater and her husband Scott Sapoznick of Decatur, GA. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Milla Broadwater of Charleston, Lexi Broadwater of Hixson; and a grandson, Ari Sapoznick. Other survivors include her brother, Dr. William Link and his wife Linda, of Fairmont, NC; a nephew, Benjamin Link, and nieces Kelly Link and Dr. Holly Link. 

A memorial service for Eileen will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12, at Hamilton Funeral Home, 4506 Hixson Pike The Reverend Robert Johnson, senior pastor at Hixson Presbyterian Church

Visitation will be held on Monday, Aug. 12, from 12 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.

Interment will be private at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
