Billy “Bill” A. Farmer, Sr., 85, of Chattanooga, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2019, surrounded by his family. 

Bill was a lifetime resident of Chattanooga.  He was a 1952 graduate of Red Bank High School, attended Tennessee Tech University and graduated from the University of Chattanooga.  He was a military veteran serving in the United States Army and the National Guard.  He was a member of Red Bank United Methodist Church where he served as a youth Sunday School teacher, assisted on several youth mission trips and was a volunteer in the Safe House ministry for middle school students for the past 18 years.  Bill worked for 3M for over 20 years and retired from Paver System.  After retirement Bill worked part time as an associate with Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Bill was past president of Red Bank Lions Club, past president of the Chattanooga Tennis Association and enjoyed playing tennis with his “Senior Nuts” tennis team.  His greatest joy was family gatherings and attending the activities of his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Vera Kell Farmer.

Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances McMillan Farmer; children, Carolyn (Brad) Millwood, Donna Hogsed, and Billy (Julie) Farmer; eight grandchildren, Drew (Justine) Millwood, Amy (Wes) Robinson, Audrey Millwood, Mayden Hogsed, Meredith Hogsed, Kell Farmer, Ethan and Mark Abernathy.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Bill’s life will be held at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Red Bank United Methodist Church with Reverend David Brackett and Reverend Ken Sauer officiating.  Burial will be held at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with military honors.   

The family expresses deep appreciation to the nurses of Hearth Hospice for their loving care and to the caregivers of Visiting Angels.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Red Bank United Methodist Youth Ministry, 3800 Dayton Blvd., Red Bank, Tn. 37415.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
