Covenant Women Drop 2-0 Match At Belhaven

 The Covenant women’s soccer team fell to Belhaven, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon inside Belhaven Bowl Stadium.

Covenant falls to 0-3-1 on the season, as Belhaven improves to 4-2.

The Blazers found the back of the net in the 22nd minute as Sybil Roberson put one past the keeper, Lucy Sandhoff, to give Belhaven the 1-0 lead.

Sandhoff got the start in goal but only lasted the first 45 minutes of play. The freshman keeper saw five shots on goal, making four saves.

After a Megan Rasku shot was saved Belhaven was able to counter just two minutes later with a Peyton Papenburg goal in the 73rd minute to stretch the lead to two.

The Lady Scots were able to put three shots on frame in the final four minutes, but couldn’t sneak one over the end line to answer.

Paige Simons and Lizzy Hightower both were able to get two shots on goal.
Kyra Duble, Kailey Burrell, and Rasku were all able to get one on target.

Savannah Cummings came in for the final half in goal making two saves on six shots.

Jordan Georgia recorded seven saves in the contest for the Blazers to be credited with the win.

Belhaven outshot the Lady Scots 12-8 (8-7 on goal) and recorded six corner kicks to Covenant’s one.

Covenant returns home to face in-state rival Berry on Tuesday beginning at 7 p.m.
