UTC's Gerdes Leads Mocs In Chattanooga Collegiate Clay Court Championships

  • Saturday, September 14, 2019
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga junior Niklas Gerdes led the Mocs men’s tennis team on the second day of the Chattanooga Collegiate Clay Court Championships at Manker Patten.  The Geestland, Germany, native advanced to the finals of the doubles draw and the singles semifinals with wins today.

Gerdes started the morning session with a 6-0 doubles win with sophomore Tomas Rodriguez against the Memphis tandem of Taylor & Sullivan.  That put them in tomorrow’s finals against Memphis’s Palles and Sydow.

Rain in the area forced some changes in the schedule and pushed the tournament back into the evening hours.  Gerdes advanced in singles with a (6-1, 6-4) win over the Tiger’s Patrick Sydow.  He is matched up against Troy’s Oskar Michalek in tomorrow’s semifinals of the 32-man main draw.

Senior Turner Voges and sophomore Tomas Rodriguez both won in consolation action.  Complete results are available below, along with the updated draws at the top of the page.
Teams are back on the court at 8:30 a.m. (E.D.T.) with the conclusion of doubles play.  The singles finals are set for Noon.
