Lee Women Win 3-0 At Trevecca

  • Tuesday, September 17, 2019
The Lee University women’s soccer team posted its third shutout of the season and improved to 3-1 overall after a convincing 3-0 victory at Trevecca Nazarene University on Monday evening.

The win ended a string of four road games for the Lady Flames. The team will rest for a couple of days before getting back to work for its home opener against Tusculum College on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.

Lee moved out to a 1-0 advantage at the end of the first 45 minutes. Sophomore Avery Engels scored on an assist from junior Riley Henry.
The Lady Flames made it a 2-0 contest midway through the second half. Sophomore Lauren Weimer was delivered a beautiful assist from senior Riley Engels and headed the ball into the back of the net. Weimer also tallied the final Lee score and was again assisted by Riley Engels. Lee goalkeeper Taylor Green recorded her third clean sheet of the year and picked up the victory.

“I thought the team played well this evening. There was some good ball movement at times and we created a number of good opportunities,” said Lee head coach Chris Hennessey. “Trevecca is always a very tough team to play against, so to get a result like this is very pleasing.”

Hennessey noted he was also pleased with the play of his midfielders and forwards. “Given we have been on the road for the past four games, the team has dealt with it tremendously,” he said in praising his club.

“We now have a few days to recover and get ready for our home opener in nine days,” the coach concluded. Beginning with the Tusculum game, the Lady Flames have six straight home dates. They open GSC play with Shorter University on Sept. 28, followed by Mississippi College, Delta State, the Kickin It For Kids With Cancer game against Spring Hill College on Oct. 11 and finishing up with a big date against West Florida.
