The Tennessee Emergency Number Association has honored John Stuermer “in recognition of his outstanding contributions to 9-1-1 communications and his tireless advocacy of 9-1-1 in Tennessee”.
Mr. Stuermer has served as the executive director of the Hamilton County 9-1-1 Emergency Communications District since 2004.
He was presented the Senator Joe Haynes Award during TENA’s annual conference, the Association’s highest singular honor.
The District provides the life-saving 9-1-1 service to all residents of Hamilton County and manages a unified communications center on behalf of Hamilton County and the cities of Collegedale, Red Bank, East Ridge, Chattanooga and the town of Signal Mountain. It is considered one of Tennessee’s premier 9-1-1 centers, having attained national certification for excellence in all facets of management and operations. The center was unified under Mr. Stuermer’s leadership in 2009.
The District is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the county mayor and Commission. The board is chaired by Don Allen. Other members include Executive Vice Chancellor Dr. Richard Brown, Sheriff Jim Hammond, Chief Eddie Phillips, Chief Mark Mathews, Chief David Roddy, Chief Phil Hyman, Daisy Madison, Dan Collyer and City Managers Boyd Veal and Ted Rogers.
