DAR Honors Dr. Mary Lambert And Celebrates Constitution Week

The Nancy Ward Chapter NSDAR, met at the Mountain City Club where the guest of honor and speaker was Dr. Mary Lambert.  She provided a power point presentation on the 9/11/01 disaster and her role during those days of recovery. She also shared history during her remarkable career. 

Dr. Lambert is continuing a long history of service in programs providing for health care needs and addressing public health.  Dr. Lambert’s past assignments in the Washington D.C. area included director of the Office of Military Liaison and Veterans Affairs in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Health, a detail to the White House to establish the then new volunteer Medical Reserve Corps, later serving as director of the Medical Reserve Corps Program in the Office of the Surgeon General, as well as deployments in the nation’s Capitol area after the 9/11/01 attack on America and in response to the National Capitol anthrax exposure event.  

Dr. Lambert served two assignments with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 1997 through 2000 and from April 2004 through April 2010.  The second CDC time frame included an assignment where exceptional performance was noted in a flag equivalent position with responsibility for managing in a critical leadership for program position with more than 780 staff.  

Constitution Week was celebrated in the Nancy Ward Chapter and was highlighted by a report of progress given by Christy Torok, chairman of events. Her committee delivered to Hamilton County Schools' students educational materials including resource packets, pocket Constitutions, patriotic pencils, Constitution Week posters and copies of the 19th Amendment.  Other recipients of the Constitution Week posters were The Medal of Honor Museum, American Legion Posts, Mission Bar-B-Q and local libraries.

Constitution Week annually begins on Sept. 17 through Sept. 23. The U.S. Constitution was signed in 1787 in Philadelphia, Pa., by the six founding fathers of America:  George Washington, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Alexander Hamilton.
