Josh Brower and Jake Major scored and the Covenant men's soccer team continued its impressive start to the season on Friday with a dominating, 2-0, victory over USA South rival Piedmont at Scotland Yard.

Covenant (5-0-1, 2-0 USA South) has won six straight over Piedmont (2-2-1, 1-1-1 USA South) since 2015 and the Scots extended their all-time mark over the Lions to 15-0-1 with the victory.

Brower notched the eventual game-winner in the 31st minute to give the Scots a 1-0 lead.
The senior collected a long ball from Jesse Riggs, and then maneuvered up the field and around a Piedmont defender before placing his shot past a diving attempt from keeper Cameron Verona for the goal.

The score was Brower's fourth of the year and gives him 16 total points on the season (four goals, eight assists), which leads the USA South.

For a second straight match, the Covenant defense held its opponent to very few chances offensively. Paul Lemay made three saves on the afternoon, while the Scots' defense allowed Piedmont just five shots in the contest. Lemay made two saves within a minute of each other 15 minutes into the second half as the visiting Lions mounted their best offensive attack.

Over the last two matches, opponents have attempted just eight shots against the Scots.

Major then sealed the match in the 88th minute with a strike from the middle of the 18-yard box. Aaron Riggs played a perfect ball across the box where Major one-touched the ball in the air and blasted the attempt past Verona for the score. The goal was Major's second of the year and it was Riggs' second assist of the season.

Covenant held a 20-5 edge in total shots, and a 7-4 lead in corner kicks. Brower led all players with five attempts, while Mercer Stout had four shots. The tense match saw 28 combined fouls, with Piedmont getting hit with four yellow cards.

Verona made six saves for Piedmont in the defeat.

Covenant will host Pfeiffer on Saturday for a USA South match. Kickoff at Scotland Yard is set for 5 p.m.
