Phyllis Gaither Dunn, 87, passed away peacefully at home on September 6, 2019.

She was born November 20, 1931 to Samuel Farris (Jimmy) Gaither and Edith Phillips Gaither.

A lifelong Chattanoogan, she graduated from Central High School and the University of Chattanooga. She was a joyful Christian, and a loving mother and grandmother. She loved art, music, reading and dogs, but most enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Dunn Scaro and Heather Dunn (Eric) Elsea; grandchildren, Allison Scaro (Heath) McCorkle, Amy Scaro (Ryan) Spry, and Brandon Elsea; great-grandchildren, Kaylen McCorkle, Hudson McCorkle, and Stephen Spry. She is also survived by her two wonderful caregivers, Robin Kilby and Suzette Young, who are now considered family.

A special thank-you to Amedisys Hospice for their compassionate care.

The family will hold a private memorial service.

Arrangements are by Cremation Center of Chattanooga.

Chattanooga Police, with the assistance of the Lookout Mountain Drug Task Force, arrested a suspect wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred in the 3800 block of Larry Drive on Sept. 28.
