The Local Republican Party Is Not Helpful

Monday, January 13, 2020

I read the Chattanoogan article regarding the upcoming local elections. I was really taken by Kerry Steelman’s candor regarding the Hamilton County Republican Party.

Mr. Steelman is the director of the Hamilton County Election office, and has served the community in a professional manner. Mr. Steelman’s words should resonate with local conservatives.  Mr.

Steelman simply confirmed what everyone knows.

The local Republican Party is not helpful, even to conservatives.

“Mr. Steelman said his office is trying to line up 864 election day workers. He said he relies on the parties to help. He said county Democrats had been very helpful, but he said "attempts to get information from the Republicans" has been "a struggle. They're not responsive."

The local Republican Party is a fine place to eat cupcakes and take a nap in my opinion. For rubber meets the road conservative activism, the party is not going to get the job done.

If it were not for Commissioner Tim Boyd moving his district against UnifiEd, the Hamilton County Commission would be well on their way to a liberal majority.  Commissioner Boyd rallied conservatives throughout Hamilton County on the issue of UnifiEd.  Thank goodness, the commissioner did, because the party was silent.

Can you imagine Mr. Wheel Tax Commissioner Sharpe having a majority?

In the end, UnifiEd and CVB board members could not topple Commissioner Boyd.

Commissioner Boyd’s win against UnifiEd and CVB board members is a testament to the voters of East Ridge and grassroots conservatives.  Y’all are wonderful.

While, the local Republican Party cannot get involved in primaries, many people viewed the local Republican Party’s failure to recognize that their Republican majority commission was under siege by UnifiEd as irresponsible.

During the property tax increase debates in 2019, Commissioners Sharpe and Geter, with Mackey in tow, were prepared to go even further than the HCDE request. This liberal voting bloc must think we are all just made of money and should hand over our earnings.

Conservatives asked, where is the local GOP in the property tax debate?

Silent as mice. With a huge property tax increase proposal in full play, the local Republican Party never released a position.

When a solid leader like Kerry Steelman says the local Republican Party is not helpful, he is being honest and frankly sugar coating the party’s chronic failure.

The local Republican Party is not helpful.  Mr. Steelman got it right.

Greg Martin: Why I Will Not Be Voting For Commissioner Discretionary Spending - And Response

Most people that know me well know that I will not vote to reinstate the $900,000 commissioner’s discretionary spending of taxpayer money. My reasons are: 1. There could not be a worse economic time for the government to spend additional money. It’s time to tighten the belt of government spending and not expand it. All American families are having this conversation around their ... (click for more)
