Chattanooga Chamber Day on the Hill
Chattanooga Chamber Day on the Hill

On Tuesday, the Senate held a vote on one of the more controversial bills that came before the legislature last year. House Bill 0836 by Rep. Rudd and Senate Bill 1304 by Senator Rose would prevent a private licensed child-placing agency from being required to perform, assist, consent to, refer, or participate in any child placement for foster care or adoption that would violate the agency's written religious or moral convictions.

Last year the House passed House Bill 0836 with 67 Ayes, 22 Noes, and 3 Present and not voting. This year, the Senate passed its Senate Companion Bill with 20 Ayes, 6 Nays, and 5 Present and not voting.

On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of joining the Hamilton County Delegation, Majority Leader, and Speaker of the House in speaking to the members of the Chattanooga Area Chamber during their legislative day on the hill.

During the meeting, each member of the delegation spoke on various topics which included, potential and current legislation that we are planning on introducing this Session, Criminal Justice Reform, and Food Deserts.

Rep. Yusuf Hakeem
