The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis teams posted a pair of 6-1 wins at Chattanooga's McCallie School today. UTC defeated Appalachian State and Union College (Ky.) in the first home matches of the spring season.
Chattanooga opened with an impressive 6-1 win over Appalachian State. It took the Mocs less than two hours to beat their former Southern Conference rivals.
Junior Niklas Gerdes led the way with a (6-0, 6-0) win over Milo Bergeron at No 1. He also teamed with sophomore Tomas Rodriguez for a 6-2 win at No.
2. doubles.
Gerdes, Rodriguez, sophomore Kerim Hyatt and freshman Jeffrey Dewald all went 2-0 in singles play today. The Mocs swept all six doubles matches and won 10-12 in singles.
Dewald had strong showings at No. 4. He only dropped two games in his two wins combined.
Next up for the Mocs is a trip to Austin Peay on Jan. 25. The next home match is Feb. 1 against Presbyterian.
