Eight Lee Athletes Named To Gulf South Conference All-Academic Team

The Lee Athletic Department placed eight athletes on the Fall Gulf South Conference All-Academic Teams the league office announced on Monday afternoon. The All-Academic team recognizes athletes who carried a 3.20 cumulative GPA or higher and were also a significant contributor on the field.

The Lee men's soccer team saw goalkeeper Daniel Hrenko (Sr., Business Administration, 3.29) and midfielder Jared McWhorther (Jr., Sports Management, 3.26). McWhorter was named the GSC Offensive Player of the Year while Hrenko was tied for the league lead in shutouts.
The Flames captured the program's first GSC title, with a 1-0 win over West Florida and made their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2019.

Kelsey Yoder and Riley Engels landed on the women's all-academic team. Yoder (Jr., Nursing, 3.98) scored in all four postseason games for the Lady Flames this season while Engels (Sr., Elementary Education, 3.44) was named to three different all-region teams with seven goals and five assists.

The men's and women's cross country teams had four representatives receive the academic honor. Caleb Eagleson (Jr., Youth Ministry, 3.29) and Casey Guthery (Jr., Advertising, 3.44) earned spots on the men's side while Chloe Flora and Charlee Boxall were named on the women's side. Guthery and Eagleson were all-region runners finishing 12th and 23rd respectively at the South Region Championships.

Flora (Sr., Nursing, 3.21) and Boxall (Sr., Nursing, 3.63) also earned all-region honors with Flora finishing second behind teammate Celine Ritter and Boxall coming in ninth at region.  Flora also earned a 40th place finish at nationals to earn NCAA D2 All-American status and lead the Lady Flames to their best finish of 14th.   

In addition to the eight GSC All-Academic Team members the Lee Athletic Department had 78 fall athletes earn honor roll status. Athletes must have a 3.00 or high cumulative GPA to land on the honor roll. The Flames and Lady Flames place the most athletes on the honor roll for non-football schools.
