Retired Captain With The Chattanooga Fire Department And U.S. Army Veteran

  • Monday, January 6, 2020

Robert “Lamar” Henry, 71, passed away unexpectedly on December 21, 2019.

Lamar was an Army veteran proudly serving our country in the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged from the military he decided to go into the restaurant business where he opened two successful restaurants, O’Henry’s in Dalton, GA. After selling his restaurants he entered public service and became a firefighter. He quickly advanced in rank to Captain and retired after 28 years of service from the Chattanooga Fire Department. After retirement he worked part-time at Brown Acres Golf Club where he continued his love of golf and developed many friendships.

Lamar was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. His loves were his family, golf, and the Tennessee Vols. He looked forward each year to the family retreats to the mountains, the annual golf trip with his friends and of course boat cruises with Marilyn.

If you were fortunate enough to meet Lamar, you had a friend, for life.

He was preceded in his death by his father Robert “Bob” Andrew Henry of Chattanooga.

He is survived by his mother, Jessie Nester, and two sisters, Teresa Henry and Lana Henry, his wife,

Marilyn Henry, sons, Robert “Wes” Henry, Tim Bailiff, Scott Bailiff, and daughter, Amy Kapo. He had five grandchildren, Jordan Henry, Ethan Kapo, Georgiana Kapo, Addi Bailiff and Emma Bailiff, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mike Lofton officiating.
