Fire Burns Down Signal Mountain House; Resident Takes Off

A fire burned down a house on Signal Mountain on Wednesday morning after an explosion at the location at 834 Fairmount Ave. A neighbor said the resident left the scene after the boom.

At 6:15 a.m., the neighbor called 911 reporting the explosion and house fire. Signal Mountain Fire Department responded and arrived on the scene reporting a fully involved house fire.

Signal Mountain Fire Department Chief Eric Mitchell requested a Mutual Aid response for additional units and manpower to the scene. Walden’s Ridge Emergency Services and Chattanooga Fire Department responded. Red Bank Fire Department stood by at Signal Mountain fire station, Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department stood by at Red Bank fire station and Lone Oak Volunteer Fire Department was on stand-by at their fire station.

Signal Mountain Fire Department requested the Hamilton County Fire Investigation Task Force to respond to the scene.

The neighbor said no one was home after the resident took off.

Chief Mitchell reported the house is a total loss. No injuries were reported, but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for any potential injuries to firefighters.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by the Hamilton County Fire Investigation Task Force and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
