Carole Sue Burgans, 87, passed away peacefully at her home to join her husband in their heavenly home on Monday, October 18, 2020.  She was surrounded by her family.

Carole was a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, filled with love and compassion.  She remained positive and kept her amazing sense of humor throughout her short illness.  She doted on her family, and was happiest when she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and sons-in-law.  She never knew a stranger.  She was well known for her love of all children, her unmatched sense of humor, her talkative nature, as well as her colorful Oscars commentary.

She was preceded in death by parents, James Roy and Lena Mae Shoemake; two sisters, Betty Lane of Knoxville, TN, and Robbie Houston of Spring City, TN, and her loving husband, Ernest Burgans.

She leaves behind a brother, Jack (Sue) Shoemake of Englewood, FL; daughters, Deborah (Steve) Blackburn, Sonja Dorgan, and Brandy Burgans (Jason Jones); two granddaughters, Tina Everton and Baylee Dorgan; a cousin and best friend of 76 years, Barbara Fryar; special nephew, Jeffrey Suits; close friend, Ann Wilkes, as well as many, many, special nieces and nephews.

The family wants to specially thank her caregivers, Brandie Little, Tionya Meadows, Tahia Ruff, Rachel Erickson, Kay Hodge, and Pam Harvey.  The family cannot thank Hospice of Chattanooga enough for their immense support and care throughout the last six weeks.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 23, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home at Highway 58.

A private graveside service will follow at the family’s cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Hospice of Chattanooga.

Arrangements are by Turner Funeral Home, Highway 58 Chapel, 423 622-3171.
