Held Long Career As A Nurse At Erlanger And Hutcheson

Stella Langston, 97, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday October 20, 2020.

She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and migrated south for training at Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing, earning her Registered Nursing degree in 1948. Stella began her nursing career at Erlanger Hospital, leaving there to begin at the new Hutcheson Memorial Hospital where she worked for many years until moving to Spring City, TN and working at Rhea County Medical Center. Along with her husband Cecil, she was owner of Langston’s Grocery until 1981. After returning to Fort Oglethorpe, Stella was a volunteer at Hutcheson, The Colonnade, and helped with Senior Moments on UCTV. She was a long-time member of Seniors and Friends of Fort Oglethorpe, serving as rreasurer and working in the kitchen. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, dominoes, and Rummikub.

Stella was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Langston, parents, Mieczvslaw Chwiedziewicz and Aniela Karbasz, and brother Chester Chevers.

Left to lovingly remember her are her children Gail (Jack) Whisenant and Michael (Nancy) Langston, grandchildren Ginger Phillips and David (Debbie) Whisenant, great-grandchildren Zane (Jordan) Phillips and Dillan Whisenant, and great-great grandchildren Addilynn and Georgia.
