Signal Mountain's Joshua Pote kicks it towards a third place place, leading six of his teammates to top 10 finishes and the team championship at the Region 3 Small School Cross Country Championships held Monday at Brainerd High School.

The Signal Mountain girls raced to a sweep of the first three spots to engineer a team first place finish at the Region 3 Small Schools cross country championships Monday at Brainerd High School. As if that wasn’t enough, the Eagles’ boys’ team then raced to a first place finish, taking seven of the top 10 places.
Sophia Gibby (19:50.45), Kelsey Thompson (19:59.53) and Hannah Laramore (20:57.02) led the Lady Eagles’ charge to the finish line, while teammates Ada Boyd (21:29.96), Lisa Lin (22:11.84), Aubrey Lynch (22:19.06) and Olivia Parker (23:12.24) all finished in the top 11 for a team time of 1:44.29 and a commanding win over second place Sequatchie County at 1:56.33. Tellico Plains was third at 2:13.58.
On the boys’ side, the Eagles turned in a winning team time of 1:27.13. Sequatchie County took first and second individually and a team time of 1:30.59 and CSAS was third at 1:36.16.
Grayson Kennedy of the Indians turned in a blistering time of 16:12.89 over the 5000 meter course while teammate Carter Bradford was right behind with a second place finish of 16:25.50.
Joshua Pote (16:36.95) was next and started a deluge of signal Mountain runners. Colton Underwood, Noah Shriner, Mason Howell, Max Sewell and Kaid Boehm helped complete the near sweep by the Eagles.
The Region 3 Division I Large Schools will compete on Tuesday at the woodland Park Baptist Church course. The varsity girls start at 12:15 p.m. with the varsity boys going at 12:50. The DII-A competition will start at 10:00 a.m. with the varsity girls. The varsity boys will race at 10:40 a.m.
