Lee junior Connor Pollman carded a final round 73 on Tuesday at the North Georgia Invitational.
The Lee men's golf team wrapped up the fall portion of the 2020-21 season with a fourth-place finish at the North Georgia Invitational on Tuesday afternoon from the Chattahoochee Golf Club.
The Flames were second after round one with an opening 281 but struggled to find that same magic in rounds two and three with a 288 and a final round 290 for an 859 total. South Carolina Aiken rolled to a seven-stroke victory with a sizzling round of 273 for an 837 total. Piedmont College and Lincoln Memorial were tied for second at 844 while the Flames and host North Georgia followed in fourth.
"This week was a bit frustrating for our team after the opening round.
Today, in particular, we just had trouble sustaining any momentum," said Lee Director of Golf, John Maupin. "It seemed like anytime we did something good, we gave it right back with a mistake. We have a really strong group of fighters, but you can't always put yourself in position to where you're having to fight back. Ultimately, this was a course where low numbers reigned, and we just didn't score well enough."
Sophomore Beck Burnette led the Flames with a 211 (70, 69, 72) and placed tied for 12th. Dustin DeMersseman finished tied for 17th with an opening round 3-under 69 followed by a pair of 72's. Connor Pollman (219), Evan Spence (220) and Oliver Lewis-Perkins (221) rounded out the scoring for the Flames.
Piedmont's Matthew Leemann claimed medalist honors by one stroke over Lincoln Memorial's Dan Bradbury. Leemann fired a final round 69 to shoot 204 to edge Bradbury who opened the tournament with the low round of the event, carding an opening round 64.
