Susan Lamb

Susan Lamb went to heaven on Thursday, October 29, 2020.

She was a confident Christian, wife, sister, mother and Nana.

Born on April 23, 1931, in York, Pa., she was the eldest child of a supervisor and school teacher. She received her schooling in Hiestand Elementary and two-room Smyser School, West York High School, Sargent College of Physical Education, Boston University. Sargent College was one of three colleges offering physical therapy at the time, so Susan was a pioneer in physical therapy.
She was raised in the Lutheran church and embraced the United Methodist Church when she met her husband, Rev. Sullins Lamb. The two met on a blind date setup by the pastor of a UMC in Dallas Texas.

Sue moved to Dallas to escape the bitter winters. Once married, the Lambs moved to Holston Conference where Rev. Lamb would preach the gospel for 40 years. The couple started in Knoxville, then resided in Bristol, Damascus, Wise, Daisy, North Chattanooga, Hixson, Kingsport, Kingston, Brainerd and Lookout Mountain before retiring on the mountain.

A registered physical therapist, Sue worked in nursing homes, child development and home health. She loved and cared for all her patients throughout the years in Hamilton, Loudon, Monroe, Sullivan counties in Tennessee and Walker, and Dade counties in northwest Georgia. She volunteered for numerous PTAs, band boosters as well as United Methodist Women, Sunday school and church groups.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents William and Margaret Smyser and a grandmother, Margaret Schmeisser, who came to York County, Pennsylvania in 1738 from Dinkelsbuhl, Germany.

Sue is survived by her husband, Sullins, her brother William Smyser (Fran) of Mount Vernon, OH, her children Pat (Beth) Lamb of Huntsville, AL, Lisa Nichols of Sneedville, TN, Cathy Lamb of Chattanooga, Tim Lamb of Austin, TX, and Margaret Lennon of Rising Fawn; her granddaughters, Caci (Jodi) Lamb of Norfolk VA, Virginia (Ali) Muir of Philadelphia, PA, Sarah (Andrew) Jones of Farmville, VA, Jessica Nichols of Birmingham, AL and her great-granddaughter, Kiera.

A Celebration of Susan’s Life will be held graveside on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m. in the Forest Hills cemetery conducted by the Reverend Debra Dickerson.

Memorials may be sent to St. Elmo United Methodist Church or Camp Lookout, 3130 Highway 157, Rising Fawn, GA 30738.

The family would like to extend appreciation to Rosewood Assisted Living, Hospice of Chattanooga and Dr. Henry Williams and his staff for caring for our precious mother.

We respectfully request that all current mandates set forth by the CDC and the Hamilton County Health Department be adhered to. This includes “social distancing and wearing masks at all times while on the premises.

Arrangements are under the care of Chattanooga Funeral Home Crematory and Florist East Chapel, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, Tn. 37412.
