Floyd Mathis
Floyd Leroy Mathis, Sr., 75, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2020.
He was born on Nov. 4, 1944, to Rev. John Leslie Lewis and Evelyn Mathis in Chattanooga. He was a graduate of Howard High School, class of 1962. He was employed and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad. Floyd was a devoted family man, a very giving person, and most of all he was a Christian.
He was preceded in death by wife, Dianna F. Mathis; daughter, Sereta S. Mathis; granddaughter, Mackenzie C. Mathis; parents, Rev. John (Doris) Lewis and Evelyn (Ellis) Thornhill; brother, John Dandy.
He is survived by his sons, Floyd (Tara) Mathis, Jr. and Timothy (Jill) Careathers; daughters, Sonjia (Chris) Williams, Quisha (Patrick) Buggs; grandchildren, Maya and Madison Mathis, Damon and Cymone Bellmon; brothers, Larry (Margaret) Dandy, Michael Dandy, Leroy (Vena) Dandy, Leslie (Shirley) Lewis, Daniel Thornhill, Billy Hasani (Bonnie) Subira; sisters, Patricia Green, Barbara Mathis, Mildred (Gatha) Logan and Elizabeth Mathis; sisters-in-law, Helen Townsend, Deborah (Charlie) Davidson; brother-in-law, Calvin (Zelma) Finley; special family friends, Mr. and Mrs. James Tucker, Tommy (Wilma) Wills, Stacy Wills; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A public viewing will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
