George Alfred Smith, 81, beloved husband of Norma, left his home in Cleveland on November 18, 2020 to join the heavenly choir. Born in Cooper, Ky. on July 16, 1939 to Leroy Hustin and Minnie (Catron) Smith as the youngest of 17, he worked from his youth in the tobacco fields until his retirement as a mechanic from Duracell Battery.
George enjoyed teaching Sunday School, singing, picking guitar, playing practical jokes and traveling. Most of all, he loved God and family.
He is survived by his wife, Norma; daughter, Cherie (David) Wilson; sons, G.A. (Patti) Smith, Jr. and Mike (Beth) Laymon; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and sons, Terry and Tim Laymon.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 21 at 3 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church, with Pastor Travis Rogers officiating. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. at the church.
