U.S. Army Veteran Held Long Career With Hamilton County Sheriff's Office

T.J. “Eddie” Burns, Jr., left this earth Saturday, November 21, 2020 after a long battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, T.J. and Hazel Burns; siblings, Gilbert Burns, Kenny Burns, Barbara Sims, Clara Burns, and Betty Gayton.

Eddie was a graduate of Hixson High School and attended MTSU before serving in the United States Army. He was a Vietnam veteran – 25th Infantry and proud Manchu. He loved going to their reunions, and seeing his army brothers.

Eddie was retired from the Hamilton County Sherriff’s Office, serving as a patrolman for 13 years and later as a detective in the Fugitive Division. He was incredible at his job and loved his brothers in blue.

His pleasures in life were making gardens for his family and friends, hunting, fishing, going to his cabin, and spending all the time he could with his girls.

Eddie was a good football player. His teammates gave him the nickname “Burn ‘em up” which some call him to this day. He was known for his kind and generous heart. He loved his family, friends, and his church, First Baptist Church Soddy Daisy.

Survivors include his wife, Donna, daughter, Amy (Myron) Norris; grandchildren, Lillian and Stella Norris; fur baby, Sadie Ann Norris; siblings, Billie Vickers, Vivian Bray, Patricia (Perry) Chauncey, Frances (Harold) Bowman, Gail (Kevin) Wagner, Tommy and Dennis Burns; and many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 12-3 p.m. on Wednesday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
