Leonard Edward Smith, Jr., 70, died on November 26, 2020. 

He entered this life on January 26, 1950. He was born in Chattanooga, Tn. to the union of Leonard Edward Smith, Sr. and Thelma (Lewis) Smith, both deceased. 

Leonard was a graduate of Howard High School in the class of 1968. He served in the U.S. Army. He also served in the National Army Reserve for more than 20 years. He was a graduate of the former McKenzie College in 1977. He was a member of Friendship Primitive Baptist Church where he served as an usher. He retired from Dixie Industry. 

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and his eldest sister, Cynthia Jean Smith. He was devoted to his wife, Carline (Powell) Smith for 45 years. He was a loving father to his four daughters, Ronda and Varnessa Smith, Adrian and Racquel Lawrence. He was the grandfather of one granddaughter, Chyna Lawrence. 

He is survived by sisters, Josclyn Shabazz, and Pamela (Norman) Robbins; brother, Ronald Eric (Priscilla) Smith, Sr. and youngest sister, Cathy Lynn (Clarence) Keys; aunts, Lillie Broadnax, Annie Ruth Jeffery, Barbara Ann Ross-Higgins, Wenda Faye Williams, Mary Alice Collier of Atlanta, GA; Lillian Keith Lewis of Atlanta, GA; Diana Lewis of Chicago, IL; an uncle, Maurice Smith of Los Angeles, CA; a host of cousins, several nephews and nieces, both grand and great; sisters and brothers-in-laws, and many friends. 

A public viewing will be held from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10, in the chapel followed by a 1:30 p.m. graveside service. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
