On Sunday at 8 p.m., The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will broadcast a special Christmas devotional. All in the greater Chattanooga area and everywhere are invited to participate.
The First Presidency devotional will feature messages by general authorities and general officers of the Church. Previous recordings of music from the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square will be shown. The devotional may be watched on ChurchofJesusChrist.org, BYUtv and YouTube, mobile apps, etc.
The event is virtual only, due to Covid restrictions.
The First Presidency, which includes President Russell M. Nelson, President Dallin H. Oaks and President Henry B. Eyring, released a statement affirming that “the true spirit of Christmas comes because of the Christ. The true spirit of Christmas is in the angel’s announcement. ‘For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord’ (Luke 2:11). The true spirit of Christmas is the call of Jesus to ‘love one another, as I have loved you’ (John 15:12). And the true spirit of Christmas is in the Father’s introduction, ‘Behold my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, in whom I have glorified my name – hear ye Him’ (3 Nephi 11:7). We invite all to seek and share the true spirit of Christmas this season by hearing Him – Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace and Light of the World.”
Local officials reiterated this message stating, “Jesus Christ is the Savior and Redeemer of the world. The words of the prophets testify that He lives, that He brings good tidings of great joy to all people. We join with wise ones – then and now – to make haste, to worship Him and declare His holy name. (Luke 2:8-14, Luke 2:15-16, Matthew 2:1-2, 2 Nephi 25:19, Mosiah 15:1).
“Join with us on Dec. 6 for a special Christmas devotional featuring Christ-centered messages. We also invite everyone to view a short film about the birth of Jesus Christ." The Christ Child: A Nativity Story may be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXWoKi5x3lw.
