U.S. Air Force Veteran Was A Retired School Bus Driver

Robert Cooper Carnes, Jr., 73, of Ooltewah, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020.

 

Mr. Carnes was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina.  He was a graduate of North Charleston High School, a 13 year US Air Force Veteran having served in Vietnam, and a retired school bus driver.  Robert was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Post 203 and loved lighthouses.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louise and Robert Carnes, Sr.; and sister, Carol Lester.

 

Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Karen Carnes; daughters, Stephanie (Shannon) Freeman and Denise (Jeremy) Cowperthwaite; sons, Christopher (Lakrina) Carnes, Timothy (Ashley) Carnes and Steven (Lesley) Carnes; nine grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

 

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.

 

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, 5805 Lee Highway Suite 204, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421 (www.diabetes.org).

 

We respectfully request that "social distancing", wearing masks, and all CDC measures be adhered to at the cemetery.
