Lunn, Sally C. Byrd Bates (Dalton)

  • Saturday, December 5, 2020

Sally C. (Byrd) Bates Lunn, age 92, of Dalton, Georgia, died on Monday, November 30, 2020.

She was born in Perry County, Tn. and was the daughter of the late Roy and Vera Byrd of Beardstown. Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Bates, in 1973 and later her husband, Joe Lunn, in 2010. She worked as a teacher’s aide at the Vernon Elementary School in Vernon, Fl. after Ralph’s death. She was an encourager – she loved to send cards to those who needed them…that was her gift. She was a child of God, a loving mother, a caring sister, a beloved aunt and a loyal friend. She was also preceded in death by her beloved brothers, Wesley Byrd (Shelby – living) and Jimmy Byrd (Jackie), both of Perry County.

Survivors include her daughter, Canitha Bates Jordan and son-in-law, Ross Jordan, of Dalton. They were blessed to have Sally live with them for the past 10 years. Survivors also include her beloved sister, Clara Collins of Lobelville; and her beloved nieces and nephews, Theresa Hickerson (Tommy – deceased) of Perry County, Beth Wright (David) of Stockbridge, Laurel Byrd Grant of Perry County, Marty Byrd (Reba) of Perry County, Tracy Byrd of Callahan, FL and Dale Byrd (Dayron) of Perry County. She leaves behind many other loving family members and friends.

On Wednesday, Dec. 2, Theresa Hickerson and Marty Byrd were at Kirk Cemetery to welcome their “Aunt Sally” home to Perry County. She longed to return to her beloved “Beardstown”. As she grew older, Beardstown is where all of her sweet memories would go. She would recall their home place on the Buffalo River and the Beardstown Church of Christ right across the road. Her family and her church family were so very important to her. The family will gather at a later date to have a memorial service and celebration of her life.

Sally was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Dalton. They loved and cherished her and provided that much needed “spiritual family” all the way to the end of her life. Now she is “Home”.
