Peggy Hurst Johnson
Peggy Hurst Johnson, age 85, a resident of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville, Tn.
She was a member of Broad Street Methodist Church and Varnell Day Sunday School Class. She had lived in Cleveland her entire life, and will be missed by all who knew her.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Johnson; parents, James Hurst, Walter Bedwell and Catherine Hurst Bedwell; and brothers, James Hurst, and Melvin Bedwell.
Peggy is survived by her children, Dr. Jeffrey Hurst Johnson and wife, Sybil of Knoxville, and Jennifer McClure of Hamilton, Ohio; grandchildren, Andy McClure of Fayettville, AR, Joseph Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Jenna Johnson, and Jon Hunter Johnson, all of Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews also survived.
A celebration of her life will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 7, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Micah Nicolaus and Betsy Switzer officiating. A private graveside service will follow at Chilcutt Cemetery. Pallbearers will include; Chris Lowe, Dylan Lowe, Devin Gray, Jon Johnson, Joseph Johnson, Joshua Johnson, and acting as honorary pallbearers will be Varnell Day Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-3 p.m., prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to Broad Street United Methodist Church Building Fund.
Due to the national pandemic, we will not be able to have the service at Broad Street United Methodist Church. As a result, the service and visitation will be held at Ralph Buckner Funeral Homes chapel, and a temperature check and mask will be required for all who attend. The family requests that all who would like to attend to consider their health, and honor Peggy by attending in person, or via the live stream of the service on the Ralph Buckner Funeral Home Facebook Page.
