Cleveland State women’s basketball took a big road win at Columbia State on Saturday, defeating the Lady Chargers 70-43.

It was a big day for Asjah Harrell, who led all scorers in both points and assists with 16 and five, respectively. Harrell also had a game-high five steals.

Britnay Gore posted another double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing a game-high 12 boards while also blocking three shots, dishing out two assists, and recording a steal.

Kaitlyn Goodman made a big contribution, scoring 11 points and posting two steals off of the bench. “She was someone who came in and knocked down some big shots today,” said head coach Evelyn Thompson.

Both Cassidy Nihoff and Kyeshia Dalton also reached double-figures with 10 points apiece. Thompson also praised Dalton’s “solid defensive game.”

“It was important for us to come back with a win today,” said Thompson. “I appreciated the effort that we gave. At this point in the season, the win is the only thing that matters. It helps when everyone is contributing.”

The Lady Cougars will be back in action with a big game at Chattanooga State on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 ET.

Cleveland State men suffered an 83-60 loss at Columbia State on Saturday evening.

Sophomore Demonte Person posted team-highs in points, assists, and rebounds, with 20, 5, and 7, respectively, while also getting a couple of steals. Jon Morgan was also able to post double-figures for the Cougars, scoring 15 points, while also grabbing five boards and recording two steals and a block.

Jaquez Hicks had a historic night for the Cougars, breaking the program’s single-game record for blocks, which was set by Kasheef Baker in 2012. He blocked seven Charger shots.

“This was a difficult match-up at this point in the season with where we are in numbers and depth,” said head coach Lee Cigliano. “Columbia is a solid team and we just couldn’t match up with them on this day. We just have to figure out a way to get better this week and the week leading up to the tournament.”

The Cougars will be back in action against Chattanooga State in Chattanooga on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 ET.
