After 12 consecutive home wins this season the No. 22 Lee Flames faced defeat for the first inside Walker Arena on Saturday evening, losing to Auburn Montgomery, 80-73.

The pesky Warhawks have now given the Flames two of their three Gulf South Conference loses this season.  The Flames fall to 19-5 and 14-3 in league play while AUM improves to 13-12 and an even 8-8 in the GSC.

"Credit AUM tonight. They had an answer every time we tried to make a run to get back in the game in the second half," said Lee head coach Bubba Smith.
"They are very physical team and they hustle from start to finish. Unfortunately, it took us a while to match their intensity."

A capacity crowd of 1,386 people came out to see the red-hot Flames and honor seniors Ryan Montgomery and Parker Suedekum. The two were honored in a special ceremony prior to tipoff.

Montgomery had 22 points and nine rebounds, going a perfect 10 of 10 from the free throw line. Suedekum was held scoreless but did dish off five assists, including an alley-oop pass to Montgomery who flushed it home early in the contest.

"It's hard to put into words what Parker and Ryan mean to this program," added Smith. "They are the reason we've seen the culture shift in this program and are great players but even better leaders for our team."

Quay Kennedy added 15 points for the Flames while freshman Beyuan Hendricks made the most of his starting assignment with 13 points and four rebounds.

Shots were tough to come by for Lee the entire night as they converted just 23 of 59 (39 percent) from the field. The Flames did hit nine triples and connected on 33 percent from beyond the arc.

The Warhawks did most of their damage from the 3-point line as they connected on 11 of 19 for 57.9 percent. Darrion Taylor led the charge from beyond the arc going 4 for 6 to account for his 12 of his 14 points. Maharrith Jackson led all scorers with 24 points and had six boards. Carlos Bell chipped in 15 points and eight rebounds.

AUM led by as many as 13 points with after a Stanley Davis' 3-ball with 5:10 remaining. The Flames trimmed it all the way down to four on a pair of Montgomery foul shots with 1:16 left but would draw no further.

Lee will wrap up the regular season with three road contests starting on Thursday against Union University. The game will be shown on ESPN's streaming platform. The Flames will finish the regular season at Shorter (Feb. 27) and Alabama Huntsville (Feb. 29) with the GSC Tournament slated to begin on Super Tuesday (Mar. 3).
