The Lee women’s basketball team celebrated Senior Night with a 66-47 victory over University of Auburn at Montgomery on Saturday evening inside Walker Arena. It was the 13th straight victory for the Lady Flames and they improved to 24-1 overall and lead the Gulf South Conference with a 16-1 record. The Warhawks dropped to 11-13, 4-12.

The victory sets up a showdown with Union University in Jackson, Tennessee next Thursday. The Bulldogs are 21-4 and more importantly 15-2 against GSC opponents.

The Lady Flames defeated Union in Walker Arena 71-67 on Jan. 4.

“It was a great way to end our regular season home schedule with a solid win over a well-coached team in AUM,” said Lee head coach Marty Rowe. “I’m so proud of this team and especially our seniors for continuing to raise the level of our program. The season is far from over. This was just a wonderful celebration for our team and now we can refocus on getting ready for Union next week.”

The Lady Flames honored seniors Abby Bertram, Lindsey Roddy, Nicky Widenski, Taylor Boggess and Markie Dean. Bertram led the scoring (16 points) and rebounding (7). Boggess was 6 of 6 from the charity stripe, grabbed five rebounds and finished with 13 points. Widenski added seven points and six rebounds while Roddy countered with seven points and four boards. Sophomore Haley Schubert helped celebrate with her teammates by tallying 11 points.

“I’m not sure we played all that well tonight but credit our team for finding a way to win, that’s something we can definitely rely on down the stretch,” noted Coach Rowe.

Lee shot just 35% from the field (20 of 58) and made only 4 of 17 triples. In unusual fashion, the Lady Flames also struggled from the free-throw line, converting just 22 of 35 (63%). On a positive note, Rowe’s club registered seven turnovers to go with 12 assists. The Lady Flames forced the Warhawks into 23 floor mistakes and held the visitors to just 29% shooting and 31% from beyond the arc. AUM also had its share of problems shooting freebies (16 of 26).

Junior Catlin Carter enjoyed a solid night for AUM. She totaled 23 points while sophomore Jordan Brewster added 14. The Warhawks out-rebounded the Lady Flames 42-34, thanks to 17 boards by senior Aaliyah Milord.
