Covenant Men, Women Tennis Drop Road Matches

The Covenant men’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision against Thomas Moore on Saturday at the Five Seasons Sports Club.

Covenant (1-2) picked up the doubles point after taking the one and three flights. Logan Hull and Paxton Haggerty defeated Gavin Dail and Jared Haught 6-4 at the one while Chris Morton and Ethan Gibson took down Brandon Kwok and Jaret Fidler 7-6 (4) at the three. 

In singles competition, the Scots saw themselves take wins at both the three and six flights but could not pick up a third to win the match. 

Gill Dunn swept Jared Haught 6-3, 6-2 at the third slot and Chris Morton took down Jared Schenk 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (5) at the six.

Thomas Moore (3-4) won the remaining singles matches to win the match 4-3.

Ethan Gibson went three sets with Sergio Bermeio but ultimately fell 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles match.

Logan Hull forced a tiebreak at the one position falling 7-6, 6-4 (4). Cameron Cortman fell to Jared Fidler 6-2, 6-3 at the five and Ben Luke dropped the three singles match 6-1, 6-2 to wrap up the match.

Covenant travels to Sewanee on Friday, Feb. 21 at 4 p.m.

The Covenant women’s tennis team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday on a road trip in Kentucky.

The Scots opened up the day with a 9-0 loss to Centre in Danville in the morning before falling to Thomas More 5-2 in the evening in Crestview Hills.


Covenant is now 1-2 on the season. Thomas More improved to 3-2 while Centre moves to 2-0.

Madelyn Savage and Gillian Bosko picked up two points for the Scots in singles play but the Scots could not pick up another victory.

Bosko took the three singles flight in straight sets (6-1, 7-6 (2)) over Kayla Snyder and Savage defeated Alyssa Dowdell 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 at the four spot.

Thomas More swept doubles play to take a 1-0 advantage into singles play. Justine Blick and Bosko fell to Matison Perry and Lacey Pohlman 6-3 at three doubles. Snyder and Dowdell defeated Nicole Restrepo and Mariah Westra 6-1 while Esther Eddy and Savage dropped the one doubles flight, 6-2, to Brooke Warden and Kimberly Sabga.

Eddy played Warden to a tough 6-4, 6-3 match at one singles as the Scots won two games each at the two, five, and six flights.

Covenant started the day being swept 9-0 by Centre at the Centre Tennis Complex in Danville.

Eddy and Savage fell to Caroline Stallings and Lainey Hill 8-7 at the one doubles flight. Westra and Restrepo dropped the two spot, 8-2, to Hannah Doherty and Ella Rueff while Beckwith and Bosko lost in the at the three to Katherine Sherman and Grace Headley 8-2.

In Singles play the Colonels did not drop a set to complete the sweep.

Bosko won the most games by a Scot at three singles falling to Doherty 6-2, 6-1. Blick dropped the five spot to Rueff 6-1, 6-1 while Covenant only picked up one game each in the remaining matches.

The Scots travel to the University of the South on Friday to take on Sewanee at 4 p.m.
