10th Annual Road To Nightfall Begins Friday At Granfalloon

  • Thursday, February 20, 2020

Starting Friday night at The Granfalloon, the public will get to hear and vote on Chattanooga’s best band to be chosen as a headliner in this summer’s Nightfall Concert Series.  Over the course of six nights, 32 local bands will showcase their talents as they compete for the Nightfall headline position and cash prizes during the annual Road to Nightfall.

The five preliminary nights will be Feb. 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29 at The Granfalloon, 400 East Main St., followed by the finals on March 7 at Songbirds South.

Each night doors will open at 7 p.m. to all ages with the show at 8 p.m. There is a cover charge of $10.

Bands will have 15 minutes to play, and all songs must be original. Then audience members will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite bands to determine the winner of each night.  The nightly winners will receive $500.  At the finale, the six winners of the previous nights will then compete in front of a panel of professionals in the music industry who will choose the overall winner, who receives a headlining spot at Nightfall on June 21 and $1,500. The second place winner will receive a prize of $500, and guaranteed a spot, along with the other finalists, as an opening act on one of the 17 nights of the Nightfall concert series.

The Nightfall Concert series is a 17-week free concert series held free of charge every Friday from May 1 through Aug. 28 at Miller Plaza and Miller Park.

This competition provides the opportunity to showcase and promote Chattanooga’s already booming music scene and to expose the Chattanooga music market to new local bands they may never have heard before.  Furthermore, this offers a chance for these artists to network, and help grow Chattanooga’s music scene.  Last year over 150 musicians from 30 local bands competed for more than $10,000 in cash and prizes.  Prizes include everything from recording studio time to poster printing.

Past winners have used this experience to widen their fan base and further their musical careers. They include: Strung Like a Horse, Nick Lutsko, Ryan Oyer Band, Function, Amber Fults and the Ambivalent Lovers, Wtm Blues Band, Monday Night Social, Hive Theory, and The Fridge.

This year’s Road to Nightfall schedule is as follows (in order of appearance:
