Cleveland State Baseball Defeats St. Charles In 2 Games

Game 1 - Cleveland State 10, St. Charles 0

Baseball continued their home winning streak in the first game of their four-game set with the Cougars of St. Charles on Friday afternoon, securing a 10-0 victory in five innings.

Cleveland State started off hot, scoring two runs in the first courtesy of a Reese Plemmons two-run home run. They scored at least a run in each of the following innings, including four in the second inning alone.

The 2-3-4 spots came up huge for Cleveland State. Lance Dockery batted two-for-three with three runs scored and a walk, followed by Jonathan Hickman, who was two-for-two with two RBI, two runs scored, and two walks. Plemmons drove in four total runs on the day while batting two-for-two with a run scored and two walks.

Bryce Jenkins had a big start on the mound, pitching all five innings and allowing no runs and just two hits. Jenkins also struck out six batters.

Game 2 - Cleveland State 11, St. Charles 1

Cleveland State then secured a sweep on the afternoon by defeating St. Charles 11-1 in five innings in the second game of Friday’s doubleheader.

Andrew Carpenter, who was two-for-three with three runs scored, three RBI, and a walk, struck first for Cleveland State, hitting a two-run home run in the second inning to put Cleveland State out first. The offense continued to erupt as the game progressed, leading to a three-run fourth inning and a six-run fifth to seal the victory.

Dockery also had a multi-RBI game for the Cougars, driving in two, while batting one-for-three with two runs and a walk. Cooper Roberts also hit his first collegiate home run while also going one-for-three from the plate.

On the mound, Kaleb Orr earned his first collegiate win, allowing just one earned run and two hits in five innings of work. He also struck out five total batters.

The series will continue tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 ET.
