A Chattanooga man has been arrested after police said he beat a child with a belt and caused 70 unique wounds.

When Chattanooga investigators responded to a Feb. 16 child abuse call, they first spoke to a woman who told police that her son had shown her marks on his neck, back, shoulder, and chest after being struck by a belt.

She told police she spoke to her boyfriend, Ameen Blackmon, about this. He told her that the child and his brother had played too roughly with their younger brother. Blackmon then said he disciplined them with a leather belt on the rear end. However, police observed photographs of marks of back wounds that were scabbed up.

When Blackmon met with an investigator, he gave a recorded statement. Police said he corroborated what the mother had said. He said he was “overcome with emotion” and “took things too far.” He told the investigator he had continued to hit the child with a belt even after the child had fallen to the floor.

Blackmon said when he noticed the child bleeding, he realized he had over-stepped and then stopped. He said he rendered aid to the bleeding wounds on the child’s back, cleaning the injuries and applying an ointment.

Police said he then gave the officer the belt he used to strike the child.

He was described as  remorseful, emotional, and admitting he was wrong.

Blackmon, 27, of 1661 Jed Lane, was charged with aggravated child abuse.

Anthony Wayne Pittman was arrested after police said he put a child in a chokehold during an altercation on Friday.

When police responded to a disorder call, the victim said Pittman, 30, attempted to enter the residence despite the two being separated. When he was able to get in, the two began to argue. Police were told that Pittman began to throw objects around the room, breaking a wifi router.

When the victim’s son heard Pittman yelling, he entered the room just as Pittman was starting to “move toward her in an aggressive manner.” He told Pittman to stay away from his mother, and then Pittman allegedly turned his attention toward the boy and put him into the tight grip.

The victim’s cousin then entered the room, and the victim and her cousin combined to pull Pittman off of her son. After this, Pittman allegedly broke a glass window as he ran away.

Pittman is charged with domestic assault and child abuse.
