New Public Safety Commission member Luis M. Viamonte, MD (left) is sworn in by Dalton City Attorney Gandi Vaughn
Luis M. Viamonte, M.D., was sworn in as a member of the Public Safety Commission at the body’s monthly meeting on Tuesday morning. Dr. Viamonte replaces Keith Whitworth on the commission.
Dr. Viamonte is a native of Havana, Cuba. He attended the University of Miami in Florida and Auburn University.
He graduated from the Emory University School of Medicine and served his pediatric residency at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, Texas before serving in the United States Navy as a lieutenant commander medical officer. Dr. Viamonte moved to Dalton in 1978 to begin his pediatric practice.
“My wife Ann, our two-year-old son and I moved to Dalton in 1978 due to its great public schools, hospital, and pediatric group practice. We were rewarded with a progressive city, many friends, and a safe environment to raise and educate our children, enjoy the beautiful surroundings, and attend church,” Dr. Viamonte said. “It is an honor for me to have been nominated by our city council and I look forward to serving our city and first responders.”
