Beck Burnette finished seventh to lead the Flames at the Saint Leo Invitational on Tuesday.
The seventh ranked Lee men’s golf team opened the spring portion of the schedule with a fifth-place finish at the Saint Leo Invitational from the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club on Tuesday.
Freshman Beck Burnette continued his stellar season leading the Flames (878) with a final round 1-under par 71 and finished seventh. Burnette posted rounds of 74 and 71 on Monday for an even-par 216 total.
Connor Pollman went 2-under with a pair of 71’s on Monday but slid to a 77 in the final round for a 3-over 219 and a tie for 13th.
Scott Odell (76, 70, 77, 223), Dustin DeMersseman (72, 76, 77, 225) and Dylan Lillard (79, 72, 76, 227) followed closely behind.
Host Saint Leo edged Kesier University by a single stroke for the team title. The Lions carded an 867. Nova Southeastern was third at 871 while Gulf South Conference rival Valdosta State finished just ahead of Lee at 877.
Nova’s Tomas Millet was the only player to fire red numbers in all three rounds as he held off Saint Leo’s Alberto Castagnara for medalist honors. Millet went 68, 70 and 70 for a 208 total while Castagnara saw a two-stroke lead slip to a one-stroke deficit with rounds of 68, 68 and 73 (209). Bethune-Cookman’s Marcus Sundlof used the low round of the tournament, a 6-under 66 in round two on Monday to finish in the top three at 211 (71, 66, 74).
The Flames will travel to Valdosta State to compete in the three-day Southeastern Collegiate Mar. 8-10. Lee finished 10th in the competitive field in 2019.
