Charles Campbell

With his family at his side, the Lord called Charles Harbert Campbell, at age of 85, home on Tuesday, February 25, 2020.

Charles was born on Sept. 8, 1934, to the late William Roosevelt Campbell and Ruby Webb Campbell.  He spent his life living in the Jasper, Tennessee community.  Charles was drafted into the United States Army and served his time until 1959. At the time of his honorary discharge, he held the position as a United States Army Corporal. When he returned, he married the love of his life, Betty Jean Quarles Campbell and they began their family and a beautiful life.

Charles loved his Lord in his Nazarene faith and was a member of the Nazarene Church in Jasper, Tn. Before retiring, Charles was employed with Tokheim as a laborer in Jasper.

Charles was a very honorable, loyal and devoted husband of 40 years; cherished father, brother, grandfather and friend. He never wanted anyone to devote attention to him however, as his children stated “he gave with all his heart and soul” to those he loved. During his past time, Charles loved to fish, woodworking, spending time with his family, work in his garden, and watching Andy Griffith, M’A’S’H or any competitive sports. He was known for being the walk, talk and encyclopedia about baseball. He had played baseball from his time in the army to playing on the Cedar Grove baseball team. Charles had a record of playing every position on a baseball field, being a switch hitter and should have been a professional baseball player. He was the “king of baseball”.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Campbell; parents, William and Ruby Campbell; brothers, Lawrence Campbell, Gene Campbell, Carl Campbell, Sr., and Clyde Campbell and sisters, Linda Thomas, Anna Jane Campbell and Patsy Campbell.

Those left to cherish his memories are his son, Chuck Campbell (Peggy); daughter, Tammy Scisson (Marc); seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and sister, Judy McCrary (Jesse).

The family will have visitation on Friday, Feb. 28, from 3-8 p.m. CST at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. CST in the Chapel of Tate Funeral Home.  Charles will be laid to rest after the funeral service at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Jasper.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Tate Funeral Home, LLC., 950 Mel Dixon Lane, Jasper, Tn.  37347, 423-942-9500.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.tatefh.com.
