A Chattanooga man is facing child abuse charges after police said he beat his child despite being forbidden by the courts to do so.

In November, police were dispatched to investigate a possible child abuse case. The mother said that her daughter had marks on her body due to a punishment from Malichi Moore, 27.

The mother showed marks on the child’s leg where there were multiple welts and open wounds, according to the police report. The child said she was punished for “acting out at school.”

The mother said Moore had already been to court for a previous issue about punishing the child. According to the police report, the court forbade Moore from punishing the victim in a corporal manner.

Moore allegedly told police he used “four to five switches” from the yard to punish the child for her actions. Moore said he was striking her on the buttocks, but when she moved, he ended up hitting her thigh.
