The Covenant softball team was swept in a doubleheader by Greensboro on Saturday afternoon on Lookout Mountain.
Covenant fell in game one 6-3, before falling 12-6 in game two.
The Scots are now 0-6 on the year while Greensboro improved to 6-2.
The Scots were able to cut the lead one in the home half of the fourth to make things interesting in the opening game of the day.
Faith Manning brought in Maydson Gibbins with an RBI double to right to make the score 4-1. Kirsten Aanensen then doubled home Manning to cut the score in half before Aileen Hill continued the double trend to score Aanensen and trim the lead to one.
Greensboro tacked on some insurance runs as Cheyanne Cox supported herself with a two-run home run to left to score pinch-runner Alexis Sox and the Pride held on for the 6-3 victory.
Heather Long (0-2) got the start in the circle and was tagged with the loss for Covenant. Long went three innings allowing eight hits, four runs (two earned), and struck out two. Sarah Huskey came in relief for the final four innings giving up just three hits, two earned runs on the home run while walking four and striking out three.
The top half of the lineup for the Scots proved to be the most effective getting all five hits and going a combined 5-for-14 with three RBIs.
Cox led the Pride offense going 2-for-3 with three RBIs while also going the complete game in the circle. The pitcher allowed only five hits and three earned runs while walking five and striking out six to improve to 3-1 on the year.
The offenses went to work in game two combining for 18 runs and 27 hits while drawing 10 walks in the contest.
Greensboro struck early plating five in the top of the first but Covenant answered with four runs of their own in the home half.
Manning singled up the middle to score Erika Mast and Gibbins to cut the lead to three. Cassee Wood then found a hole up the middle to bring home Manning before Cope Whitaker singled home Wood to make the score 5-4.
The Pride continued to pour it on with two runs each in the second, third, and fourth innings to take an 11-4 edge.
The Scots answered with two more runs in the fourth with a Mast single to score MK Pritchett and a Shelby Ralston single to score Wood to make it 11-6.
It would not be enough as the Pride added one more in the seventh and Covent couldn’t answer as the Scots fell 12-6.
Gibbins had a 2-for-3 game in the leadoff spot as Mast went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Wood was able to record a 2-for-4 and an RBI contest as Pritchett rounded out the multi-hit Scots going 2-for-3.
Lauren Kierpa (0-2) was the starting pitcher but was chased out after only an inning giving up six hits, five runs (three earned), and a walk. Long came in for two innings of relief work giving up four runs on five hits and Baylie Sims allowed two runs on one hit in one inning. Huskey went the final three innings scattering three hits, one run, and struck out two.
Kassie Simmons (2-1) went the full seven innings for Greensboro allowing 12 hits, six runs (two earned), walked one, and struck out six.
Caroline Stanley paced the Pride offense going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs in the leadoff spot and Sox had a 2-for-3 day for the guests.
The Scots host Mary Baldwin in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
