Urban League Temporarily Suspends Tax Assistance Program Amid Coronavirus Concerns

  • Monday, March 16, 2020

The Urban League of Greater Chattanooga has temporarily suspended the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program that provides free tax assistance for residents who meet income and residency requirements.

As of Monday, VITA sites throughout the region are temporarily closed to the public in an effort to limit face-to-face interaction.

"We deeply apologize for this inconvenience as we navigate this unusual time together," said Val Palmer, VITA program coordinator of Urban League.

"We are closely monitoring this situation as it evolves and encourage our neighbors to do the same. We assure you that we will resume the program as soon as it is appropriate to do so."

VITA sites in Chattanooga, Cleveland, Dunlap, Farragut, Soddy Daisy, South Pittsburg, Spring City, Whitwell and Bridgeport, Ala. are closed until further notice. The United Way of Greater Kingsport site will be closed for two weeks. The site at Tusculum University in Greeneville will not reopen.

Individuals and families in need of tax assistance may call 423 756-1762 or visit www.ulchatt.net for additional information.
